Westfield State University hosts popular ‘Stuff-A-Cruiser’ gift drive to benefit local victims of domestic violence

WHAT:           The 20th annual “Stuff-A-Cruiser” gift drive, sponsored by the Westfield State University Police/Department of Public Safety, collects items—including new unwrapped toys as well as new women’s clothing, hats, scarves, gloves, toiletries, etc.—to benefit the Western Massachusetts YWCA.  The YWCA provides safe places for women and children in crisis and offers women counseling, job training, childcare, and health and fitness programs. The YWCA—which has branches in Holyoke, Northampton, Springfield, and Westfield—also offers job training to people ages 16–21 who are out of school.

A Westfield State University police cruiser will be parked on the campus green to accept donations. As the drive’s name suggests, the goal is to fill the cruiser with as many of the above items as possible.

Donations will also be accepted in the Westfield State University Police lobby at 577 Western Ave., until Sunday, Dec. 12.

This event raises approximately $4,500 total value in cash donations, toys, clothing, and other items.

WHO:             The general public is welcome to join the Westfield State campus community in donating to the “Stuff-A-Cruiser” gift drive.

WHEN:          Wednesday, Dec. 8, 11 a.m.–2 p.m., through Sunday, Dec. 12

WHERE:        Campus Green (outside Ely Campus Center)
