Mark Keroack, MD, MPH, President & Chief Executive Officer, Baystate Health announces his retirement effective July 1, 2024

August 1, 2023

Dear Baystate Health Foundation donors:

Today’s message is a personal one. I am announcing my plan for retirement from Baystate Health, effective July 1, 2024. By then I will be 70 years old and will have served as CEO for ten years. Deciding about a major life transition is always emotional, and I feel in my heart that this is the right plan for my family and me.

Over the next year, I will be fully engaged in both day-to day leadership and in our efforts to plan for the future to ensure we deliver on our mission, working closely with the President’s Cabinet and the members of the Baystate Health Leadership Team. They have shown incomparable creativity, determination, and resilience over these past few years, as have the teams from across the system.

I shared my decision with the Baystate Health Board of Trustees of my plans earlier this year; both our Chair, Harriet DeVerry, and Co-chair, Colleen Holmes, support my decision and have started the process of identifying our next CEO. I want to thank Kristin Morales-Lemieux, our Chief Human Resources Officer, who will collaborate with the Board and serve as a liaison to our senior leadership team on the search. Collectively, we’ve decided to begin the succession process now to allow time for a rigorous and thoughtful approach to selecting our next CEO, which is why we felt it important to share this news now.

Leading Baystate Health is the greatest honor of my life, and I am proud every day to represent you and the work you do every day. In the year ahead, I will have more to say about what my time here has meant to me and the gratitude I feel for all the support I have been given. Until then, let me share as I so often do with a heartfelt thank you for all you do to support our patients and build healthier communities.

Sincerely,

Mark A. Keroack, MD, MPH

President & Chief Executive Officer
