City to Honor Westfield Fire Department’s Heroic Rescue during February Fire
Westfield –Mayor Michael McCabe will honor three members of the Westfield Fire Department whose dedication to service resulted in saving the life of Marcos Natal, of East Silver Street.
On February 6, 2023, during the morning shift change, members of the Westfield Fire Department were dispatched to a structure fire at 28 East Silver Street. At about that same time, Westfield Fire Captain Christopher Kane was driving to work when he noticed smoke coming from this multi-family residence and stopped to make certain all occupants were out of the structure. One of the occupants at the scene notified Captain Kane of an individual, later identified as Natal, who had gone back into the building to try to save his pets, but had not come out. Captain Kane made voice contact with Mr. Natal, who was trapped on the second floor due to the growing fire and smoke. When fire crews arrived, Captain Kane communicated all known information, and through the combined efforts of Captain Kane, along with Engine 4, assigned to fire suppression, and Engine 3, assigned to rescue, were able to save the live of Mr. Natal.
“It is a pleasure to highlight the extraordinary accomplishments on behalf of Mr. Natal, who would not be with us today if it weren’t for the fast action of our Westfield firefighters.” said Mayor McCabe, “Through the heroism and determination exhibited by Captain Kane, Captain Kieth Supinski and Firefighter/Paramedic Scott Bullock, Mr. Natal was located unconscious amongst the fire and smoke and was brought to safety. He was stabilized at the scene by paramedics and sent to Baystate Medical Center for further treatment. It is safe to say that Mr. Natal would not be with us today if it were not for the vigilance of Captain Kane and the efforts of the rest of the fire department team.”
Mayor McCabe will present official proclamations of gratitude to the three firefighters in a brief ceremony in his office, room 202 of City Hall at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, April 26th.
