About

The Friends of Columbia Greenway Rail Trail (FOCGRT) first organized as a non-profit in 2009 to support the City of Westfield’s plan to create multi-use paths. Our Board members and volunteers assist in fulfilling our mission to “blaze new trails for a bicycle and pedestrian-friendly Westfield.” This has contributed to the creation of multi-use paths throughout the City that people access every day for pleasure, safety, and as an alternative to motor vehicle use.

FOCGRT is organized as an advocate for charitable and educational purposes.

Our Mission is to:

Promote a healthy and active lifestyle.

Create a sense of community and connectedness.

Support a vibrant and creative local economy.

Provide equitable access to safe, viable, and active alternative transportation routes in Westfield.

Our work as Board members in cooperation and collaboration with appropriate City offices, departments, and agencies is to:

  1. Achieve 100% design and construction of the Columbia Greenway Rail Trail (CGRT).
  2. Encourage upon construction shared maintenance of the publicly owned trail to lessen the burden of local government.
  3. Educate our community about the need for a comprehensive infrastructure to build safe, viable alternative transportation routes in Westfield.
